TNA iMPACT! debuted on Spike TV on October 1, 2005. It has been the flagship show of TNA Wrestling since it was created on June 4, 2004.
On October 31, 2002, Panda Energy purchased a 72% ownership stake in TNA Wrestling through the creation of a subsidiary called TNA Entertainment. The remaining 28% of the company’s ownership is said to be controlled by founder and former President of the company Jeff Jarrett.
TNA was the first United States-based wrestling company to use a six-sided ring as its exclusive wrestling ring. This unique distinction was removed during the Genesis pay-per-view on January 17, 2010 when Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan reintroduced a four-sided ring to the company. While the fans complained at first, the majority of the complaints quickly died down and the issue was dropped from most fan discussions.
TNA was founded by Jerry Jarrett and his son Jeff Jarrett. The company held its first show on June 19, 2002.
When it began operations, TNA Wrestling was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and promoted its product as NWA:TNA. In 2004, though, the NWA withdrew its support for TNA Wrestling. However, as TNA Wrestling still had a contract on the NWA’s world championships, it continued to use them in its storylines until May 13, 2007 when the NWA world championships were stripped from TNA titleholders.
TNA Wrestling’s highest attended North American house show to date took place on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It is estimated that 6,500 fans were in attendance that night.
