Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff
Saturday Night’s Main Event
September 1986
For posterity, this is a WWF match which was announced by Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura. Paul Orndorff’s manager was Bobby Heenan and Hogan was the champion. Let’s get it on!
The match gets started right away with Hogan charging Orndorff and landing in the corner before receiving a bunch of punches to the face. The Hulkster brushes them off and delivers four solid right hands before bouncing off the ropes and knocking Orndorff down. Heenan gets on the apron and Hogan charges him. This gives Orndorff the opportunity to knock Hogan out of the ring.
Mr. Wonderful exists the ring and hammers away at Hogan. Paul tries to implant Hogan’s face on the apron, but Hulk stops it and reverse it on Orndorff. Hogan throws Orndorff into the ring and gives him two big chest chops before a big right hand that gives Paul rubber legs! Hogan continues and puts Orndorff’s face into the turnbuckle. After doing this again, Orndorff falls and Hogan picks him up to give him a head butt. The Hulkster sends Orndorff for the Irish Whip and follows up with a big time clothesline. Heenan jumps to the canvas and starts digging in his pocket. Hogan throws his to the floor, but gets charged by Orndorff and hits the mat.
Paul begins to stomp his head and follows up with an elbow to the back of the skull. He continues to work on the back of the champion’s head with knee butts before he tries to decapitate Hogan on the side of the apron. Hogan falls to the ground and takes out the timekeeper. Orndorff follows up on his attack by wrapping a cord around Hogan’s neck and choking him while crushing Hogan in the head with a microphone. Hogan begins to crawl back into the ring, but Orndorff knee butts him back to the floor. Orndorff plays to the crowd with a barrage of “boos”. Hogan gets in the ring and Orndorff puts his head in the mat. He proceeds to drop a knee on Hogan and choke him off. As Hogan begins to get to his knees, Orndorff hits him with an uppercut and goes for the pin. Paul only gets a two count, but continues his attack with a suplex and another two count. He gets up and kicks Hogan in the head four times before throwing Hogan into the ropes…Hogan reverses the throw and delivers a knee to Orndorff!
Hogan body slams Mr. Wonderful and bounces off the ropes, but the Brain grabs a hold off his leg. This allows Orndorff to charge Hogan, but Hogan ducks and both the Brain and Orndorff hit the floor. While on the floor, Heenan is escorted to the back by the police. Hogan exits the ring to chase Orndorff, but upon reentry, he meets Mr. Wonderful’s knee. Paul gives a few elbow shots to Hogan’s head and throat. Orndorff continues with two choke-holds. He picks Hogan up and gives him a back breaker before dropping an elbow on Hogan. Paul goes for the pin, but only gets a two count. He picks Hogan up just so he can knock him down again. Orndorff sets Hogan up for his pile-driver, but gets a back body drop instead!
Orndorff jumps back on Hogan with kicks to the midsection…but Hogan is hulking up! Orndorff hits Hogan with SIX punches to the face and Hogan just keeps on getting higher. He blocks the seventh punch and delivers three Hogan punches to Paul. He throws Orndorff into the ropes and gives him an elbow to the head. He gives Orndorff two more right hands and sends Paul down. Hogan sets Orndorff up for the pile-driver, but gives him a clothesline instead. Hogan sets Orndorff up for the pile-driver again, but some “fat-sweat hog” (as Ventura says) jumps into the ring and hits Hogan. Hulk attacks the woman and it turns out that the woman is actually Adrian Adonis! Orndorff gives Hogan a knee to the back and sends him to the floor. Both Adonis and Orndorff attack Hogan. When…
ROWDY RODDY PIPER comes down to save Hogan! Piper, coming down to the ring on a pair of crutches enters the ring. Paul is holding Hogan and Adonis runs at Hogan only to get a big boot that sends him around and a crutch to the face that sends him out of the ring. Hogan then throws Orndorff at Piper and Piper misses with the crutch, but swings again and almost hits Hogan. Hulk grabs Piper and gets in position to punch him, but doesn’t. Hogan and Piper stare at each other and Piper leaves.
Hogan wins by default.
